The Logan Ranger District needs your help! We have brand new wooden Wilderness Boundary signs to mark the Mt. Naomi Wilderness Area at 7 locations (see below).
The project is in the wilderness areas so it will require physically transporting a 4x8 treated post and the 5-7lb boundary sign to the installation location. Volunteers will dig a 3-foot vertical post hole, install the post and attach the sign in the designated locations. Motorized vehicles are prohibited (because you know, Wilderness).
This project is very arduous and requires strong able-bodied and physically fit volunteers. Volunteers will be hiking, performing heavy lifting, digging, and pounding in posts.
Volunteer days:
Saturday, August 14th @ 8:30am
Saturday, August 21st @ 8:30am
Sign locations are:
🌲 High Creek North Fork (>1mile hike)
🌲 High Creek South Fork (>1mile hike)
🌲 Birch Canyon (>1mile hike)
🌲 Smithfield Canyon (2-3 mile hike)
🌲 Smithfield Dry Canyon (>1mile hike)
🌲 Preston Valley Trailhead (>1mile hike)
🌲 Tony Grove Backcountry Trailhead (2 mile hike)
Tools will be available on- site but volunteers are encouraged to bring shovels, level, tamping bar, digging tool, and a crescent wrench if they have them. Volunteers are required to wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, sturdy hiking shoes/boots, gloves, eye protection, hat, water and bring your own snacks/lunch to sustain throughout the day!
We will email you to confirm your sign up and send you a liability waiver. We will also send you a tutorial PDF explaining the Forest Service installation guidelines. Read the instructions (or better yet download it to your phone!) before you head out to volunteer. We will go over instructions in-person and pass out tools the morning of the day you selected at the Logan Ranger District office (1500 US-89, Logan, UT 84321).
