Meals on Wheels

The Cache County Senior Center is proud to offer the Meals on Wheels program to older adults throughout Cache County. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we deliver hot, nutritious noontime meals right to the homes of eligible residents—bringing both nourishment and a friendly connection to those we serve.

Meals on Wheels is a federally and state–supported program designed for seniors 60 years and older who may be homebound, living with a disability, feeling frail, or at risk, and who qualify through a simple assessment.

This program offers more than just a meal—it’s a two-part service that includes the delivery of a healthy, hot meal and a personal check-in to support the safety and well-being of our seniors.

Currently, about 80 amazing volunteers help deliver meals to approximately 180–200 clients, one to five days a week.

For more information or to get involved, please contact the Meals on Wheels Coordinator at 435-755-1722. We would love to hear from you!

Policy

When a request for Meals on Wheels is received, a friendly staff member will schedule a brief assessment with the senior client. During this visit, we will arrange the day's meals to be delivered along with an approximate delivery time. For everyone’s safety, it is important that clients are home to receive their meals. If plans change and you won’t be home, please call to cancel your meal no later than 9:00 a.m. on the day of delivery.

Because this program includes a personal wellness check, it is very important that clients are home at the time of delivery. If a client is not home when the driver arrives, the meal cannot be left. We kindly ask that appointments and errands be scheduled outside of the usual delivery window whenever possible.

Meals on Wheels is more than just a meal—it is a service that provides both the delivery of a nutritious meal and regular participant contact to support overall well-being and safety. Drivers will announce “Meals on Wheels” upon arrival and make reasonable efforts to establish contact with the participant. Drivers are not required or expected to enter a participant’s residence if there is no response. If contact cannot be made, whether due to no response or a locked residence, the Cache County Senior Center will be notified, and appropriate follow-up procedures, including contact with emergency contacts when necessary, may be initiated.

Our drivers and staff genuinely care about the health and safety of every client. If a driver has a concern about a client’s well-being, they will share it privately with Senior Center staff. If a serious issue is discovered, an emergency contact will be notified, and if needed, emergency services will be called. In some cases, our drivers are the first to recognize that a client needs immediate help—most often due to falls or sudden medical needs. If a client is unconscious, injured, or very ill, 911 will be called immediately, and the driver will stay until help arrives.

For safety reasons, if a client is not home at the time of delivery, meals will not be left inside the home or in a cooler.

If you or a loved one could benefit from the Meals on Wheels program, we would love to help. Please call 435-755-1720 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for more information.
