History of

Cache County Library

The Cache County Library has existed in many different forms Through out the years. Cache County doesn’t currently or for much of its history had a County wide library system. Although there are many town libraries many residents of Cache County don’t live in a town with an operating library. Because of this, for much of the Cache County library existence it was operated mainly as a bookmobile service through the state of Utah. Various buildings through out Cache Valley were used for storage for the bookmobile. However in the late 1990's a permanent building was established in downtown Providence in the towns old post office (Photography). The Providence and River Heights Branch was ran for many years as both the in person library and depository for the bookmobile. In 2017 the bookmobile service was discontinued (Christensen, 2017).

The Cache County Library still operates out of the Old Post office in Providence. The Cache County Library is located in Providence Utah and is currently the only County library in operation.
