Annexations


Step 1: Proposed Annexation Notice Request

After filing a Notice of Intent with the municipality, a notice needs to be requested. This notice will be mailed to every property owner within a 300ft radius of the proposed annexed area. After the mailing has been sent the county will send you a Certificate of Notice. After receiving the Certificate of Notice a petition needs to be created and submitted to the county for review.

Step 2: Annexation Petition Review

After recieiving a Certificate of Notice an annexation petition needs to be created and submitted to the county. A petition will be created by the municipality and is a formal request submitted by a municipality to incorporate a specific area of land into an existing city or town. This petition must comply with the requirements outlined in Utah Code § 10-2-403.

The petition must include 

  • Signatures from property owners representing a majority of the private land area and at least one-third of the value of all private real property within the proposed annexation area. 
  • A certified survey plat prepared by a licensed surveyor
  • A statement of the anticipated timetable for development
  • If applicable, applications for a Master Planned Development and preliminary subdivision plat.
